John Wong embarked on his illustrious career in accountancy as an articled student at KPMG Peat Marwick in 1987, where he rose to the position of Senior Audit Manager over a decade-long tenure. His exceptional academic prowess was evidenced by his achievement of five gold medals in the MICPA professional examination and recognition as the best overall student in Malaysia. During his time at KPMG, John managed a diverse portfolio of audit clients, including multinational corporations and public listed companies, and served as reporting accountant for various corporate exercises. In 1996, he transitioned to the corporate sector, assuming the role of General Manager for Corporate and Financial Planning at a KLSE second board-listed company. Here, he spearheaded numerous corporate exercises and investment evaluations, both domestically and internationally, fostering key relationships with investment banks and regulatory bodies. Notably, in 1997, John orchestrated the acquisition of a Main Board-listed company on the KLSE, leading the completion of the mandatory general offer and securing funding exceeding RM200 million. Following this success, he assumed the role of Executive Director before co-founding Amber Capital Sdn Bhd in 1998, a prominent corporate advisory firm specializing in Mergers and Acquisitions and expanding into land and property ventures. John Wong holds esteemed qualifications including Chartered Accountant and Membership with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, Certified Public Accountants and Membership with the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), Certified Financial Planner and Membership with the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia (FPAM), and a Corporate Finance Qualification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
